Complaints to the Ombudsman can now be submitted electronically, even more securely than before. The complainant can use the new complaint form to submit confidential information and, with strong identification, also receive the decision as a secure e-mail message without having to identify themselves separately in the Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman.
With the reform, electronic complaint forms have been moved to the secure message service. Strong identification through Suomi.fi e-Identification has been added as an alternative. This can be used to verify the complainant’s identity in situations where documents contain confidential information. The reform saves costs and nature as significantly less paper will be used.
Complainants using an electronic form can save or print their complaint in PDF format after submitting the complaint. It is no longer necessary to request the form separately from the Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman.
The reform has taken children and young people into consideration by offering them their own complaint forms in Finnish, Swedish, all three Sami languages, as well as in English.
You can still complain to the Ombudsman by letter or e-mail or submit your complaint to the Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman in person.
When identifying themselves, adults who do not yet use Suomi.fi Messages will be prompted to activate the service. However, using the electronic complaint form does not require activation of Suomi.fi Messages, and the service is not currently used by the Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman. If desired, the activation can be skipped, and identification can continue as normal.
