The Parliamentary Ombudsman received 7121 complaints in 2023. This is the second largest number of complaints of all time.
The largest number of complaints concerned social welfare (1015), the administrative branch of the police (742) and the administrative branch of health services (650).
A total of 103 statements were issued, and 51 cases were investigated on the Ombudsman’s own initiative.
Inspection activities have picked up again since the coronavirus pandemic, with 83 inspections carried out in 2023.
The number of resolved complaints was 6876 in 2023. A total of 900 complaints and 27 own-initiative investigations led to measures taken by the Ombudsman. The percentage of complaints and own-initiative investigations warranting further action was 13.40%. Despite the large number of cases, all the complaints that were pending at the end of the year were less than a year old.
The statistics will be finalised at the end of January.
