The Parliamentary Ombudsman will not investigate the actions of the police in the Elokapina demonstration
The Parliamentary Ombudsman had received 15 complaints concerning the actions of the police in connection with the Elokapina demonstration held on 3 October 2020 in Helsinki.
The actions of the police were also reported to the prosecution authorities and the prosecutor has ordered a criminal investigation into the matter. The Ombudsman has decided not to start investigating the complaints because it is not possible to investigate and take a stand on a matter while a criminal process is pending.
When the criminal process has ended, the Ombudsman will assess whether there is still need to investigate the actions of the police from the point of view of oversight of legality.
