Parliamentary Ombudsman Petri Jääskeläinen has chosen Principal Legal Adviser Mikko Sarja, LL.Lic., LL.M. with court training, as a substitute for the Deputy-Ombudsman for the term 1 October 2017 – 30 October 2021.
Under the law, the Parliamentary Ombudsman chooses a substitute for the Deputy-Ombudsman for a maximum term of four years after having received an opinion on the matter from the Constitutional Law Committee. In its opinion, the Constitutional Law Committee was in favour of appointing Mikko Sarja.
Under the law, the Parliamentary Ombudsman decides when a substitute is invited to perform the duties of the Deputy-Ombudsman.
Mikko Sarja is the Principal Legal Adviser at the Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman, where he has worked since 2003. Before that, Sarja served as a presenting official at the Office of the Chancellor of Justice and conducted research at the University of Lapland.
