The second Deputy-Ombudsman Pajuoja


pajuojaThe second Deputy-Ombudsman is Dr. Jussi Pajuoja. His term began on 1.10.2009 and will run until 30.9.2013.

Deputy-Ombudsman Pajuoja is responsible for cases concerning inter alia the police, public prosecutors, Defence Forces, transport, data protection, education , labour and church.

Before his election as a Deputy-Ombudsman, Jussi Pajuoja served as the Secretary-General of the Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman. He is on leave of absence from the Ministry of Justice, where he is the Deputy Head of the Criminal Policy Department.

He worked as a Legal Adviser in the Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman in 1997 - 99.  In addition, he has performed teaching and research tasks at the Faculty of Law of the University of Helsinki and with the Academy of Finland between 1984 and 1995. He worked as a visiting researcher in the United States in 1990 - 91.

Deputy-Ombudsman Pajuoja's doctoral thesis, published in 1995, is titled Väkivalta ja mielentila ("Violence and Mental State"). It deals with persons who have committed violent crimes, the mental evaluations that they have undergone and the regulations on degrees of culpability. He has also published numerous books and research articles both alone and with co-authors.
