Deputy-Ombudsman Jukka Lindstedt
The second Deputy-Ombudsman is Dr. Jukka LINDSTEDT. His term began on 1.10.2005 and will run until 30.9.2009.
Deputy-Ombudsman LINDSTEDT is responsible for cases concerning inter alia the police, public prosecutors, the Defence Forces, aliens' affairs and language legislation.
Before his appointment as a Deputy-Ombudsman, Dr. LINDSTEDT was working at the National Archives as the director of the research project Suomi, sotavangit ja ihmisluovutukset 1939 - 1955 (Finland, Prisoners of War and Extraditions 1939 - 1955). He was on leave of absence from the Ministry of Justice, where he is a Senior Adviser for Legislative Affairs. His earlier positions have included those of criminal law tutor and research assistant at the University of Helsinki’s Faculty of Law. In addition, he has been a researcher with the National Research Institute of Legal Policy and chaired the Discrimination Board alongside his full-time duties.
Deputy-Ombudsman LINDSTEDT's doctoral dissertation was on the theme of death sentences in Finland during the Second World War. In addition, he has published other research reports and monographs on criminal law, legal history and the administration of military justice.
